Introduction

The 1st batch of Induction Training started on April 23, 2018. The training is going to be concluded on May 05, 2018. A total of 115 newly inducted faculty members of Higher Education Department, Govt. of the Punjab were included in the first batch of the PHEC Induction Training Program.

Inaugural Ceremony

The first ever mandatory ‘Induction Training of College Teachers’, was held at PHEC Faculty Development Academy located at University of Education Township Campus Lahore which was inaugurated by the Minister for Higher Education Govt. of the Punjab Syed Raza Ali Gillani on April 23, 2018. The Chairman PHEC, VC UoE, Additional Secretary (P&B) HED, DPI Colleges , Director Women HED, all DGs and Directors of PHEC and Resource Persons attended the inaugural session.

The Minster said “It is a remarkable initiative by the Punjab Higher Education Commission to improve the quality of teaching at college level as the training aims to strengthen the profession of teaching in the Province of the Punjab by providing substantial professional learning opportunities and modelling highly effective educational practice, identify and develop teachers of the highest quality who are committed to both the all- round development of young people and to their own professional excellence, support excellence by striving to model best practices in teaching and learning within all of its classes and by providing high quality development opportunities for college teachers”.

The Chairman PHEC shed light on the importance of residential training and said “The ‘Induction Training Program’, has been designed by PHEC to support the growth and professional development of new teachers. It is the second step in a continuum of professional development for teachers to support effective teaching, learning, and assessment practices, building on and complementing the first step: recruitment. It provides a chance of professional support to inductees so that new teachers can develop the requisite skills and knowledge that will enable them to achieve success as experienced teachers in Punjab. By helping new teachers achieve their full potential, the ‘Induction Training Program’ supports Higher Education vision of achieving high levels of student performance”.

The Additional Secretary (P&B) HED Mr. Tanveer Jabbar Shaikh informed the audience that PHEC has included all the required courses/modules suggested by Higher Education Department to enable inductees learn latest Andragogical interventions. He exclaimed “I am sure that the trainees would be engaged in collaborative and interactive training which will lead them to increase their awareness and understanding of each other’s roles as one of the important stakeholders of the Higher Education System in Punjab because residential form of training program always provides a friendly workplace that is always a good thing for learning.”

The Vice Chancellor University of Education, while commenting on the importance of Induction Training said “The proposed training program is aiming at building the capacity of college teachers to become “Effective Teacher” capable and knowledgeable to harness the potential of youth. This training will ensure that the newly inducted teachers understand the importance of holistic development of students”.
