PHEC launched the “Best University of the Year Award, Punjab” to raise the international standing of provincial universities

In line with the vision of the Government of Punjab, Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) has introduced the “Best University of the Year Award, Punjab” to raise the international standing of provincial universities, promote healthy competition among HEIs and reward the best performing universities.

The launching ceremony of the project, that was attended by vice chancellors of 31 public sector universities of Punjab, held today at PHEC Head Office Arfa Software Technology Park, Lahore. Minister for Higher Education and Information Technology Punjab Raja Yassir Humayun Sarfraz graced the event as chief guest. Chairman PHEC Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmed Khalid, Special Secretary Higher Education Department (HED) were also present.

The award will be distributed annual basis in the two categories- universities established in/before year 2010; and those after that- to the universities exhibiting the best performance against ten (10) parameters including governance and management of university affairs, ranking, funds generation, awards won by the university, start-ups or innovations launched, faculty strength and development, internationalization of faculty and students, research publications, new initiatives in academia and research, and the role of university in national and international disasters/social or civic engagement. Cumulatively, there will 200 marks for these parameters, and the toppers in these two categories will be declared as the best universities of the year.

Punjab Higher Education Commission would facilitate the select universities to collaborate with leading global ranking agencies to work on ranking indicators that are relevant to the higher education sector. To this end, PHEC would organize meetings with the vice chancellors and the universities’ ranking committees to orientate them about improving the performance against those indicators and assess their requirements/needs in this regard.
